OWL (Our Whole Lives)
Our Whole Lives is a lifespan comprehensive sexuality education curriculum. The First Unitarian Universalist Society is proud to offer these age-appropriate classes for groups from kindergarten through 9th grade. We do not currently offer any of the adult OWL curricula, but hope to in the future.
Interactive workshops and activities engage participants, preparing them to make informed and responsible decisions about their relationships, sexual health and behavior. With a holistic approach, Our Whole Lives provides accurate, developmentally appropriate information about a range of topics, including relationships, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, sexual health, and cultural influences on sexuality.
Our OWL programs are open to children in the broader Burlington area community, as well as our own congregation. The content of Our Whole Lives is secular, but it is not value-free. The program gives clear messages about self worth, sexual health, responsibility, justice and inclusivity.
Our OWL Program
We offer the following levels of OWL. Click the links for a description of each with list of session topics. Please note that curricula are written for a broader age-range than that of our classes:
Kindergarten and First Grade Orientation plus eight, 1-hour sessions, will be offered in the 2025/26 program year. Dates TBD.
Fifth/Sixth Grade Orientation plus ten, 1.25-hour sessions, offered in the 2024/25 school year.
Seventh/Eighth Grade Orientation plus twenty-six 1.5-hour sessions, offered in the 2024/25 school year.
