“Real vs. Imaginary: A Theological Reframing and Revaluing”

Martha Dallas – Guest Speaker
Mary Beth McNulty- Worship Associate

As UUs, ever pursuing deeper truth and meaning, we welcome and affirm theological grappling. It’s a given that in our collective midst are theists, atheists, agnostics, and all manner of believers and non-believers. But we can take this understanding to a fresh place by re-establishing our foundational assumptions and posing new questions. This sermon draws on the perspective of historian and philosopher Yuval Noah Harari, and lifts up the power of human imagination in the face of existential mystery and wonder, yielding recent developments in our guest speaker’s own theology for our consideration.

This service is led by Martha Dallas. She holds a Master’s Degree in Theology and Education and served as First UU’s Director of Religious Education from 2006-2017. She worked for several years as an independent Life-Cycle Celebrant and currently directs afterschool programming in Richmond, VT. Martha has been a member of FUUSB since 2001.
