Pastor Rodney Patterson, Guest Preacher, with Geoff Duke
Dr. Martin Luther King spoke about A Beloved Community in several speeches and sermons. Additionally, Dr. Arthuree Wright shared a resource entitled, 25 Traits of a Beloved Community. As a community of worshippers, how might we move collectively from worship to work-ship in our endeavors to manifest a beloved community in Burlington, Vermont, and beyond? Come, let us reason together!
“When Rodney Patterson came to Burlington for a job interview in the late 1980s, he realized that there was no Black church in the city (or even in Vermont). A few years later, he helped found New Alpha Missionary Baptist Church – still one of First UU’s neighboring congregations. When I first heard Pastor Patterson tell that story a few years ago, I knew I wanted you to hear it, too. Please come and welcome Rodney Patterson to FUUSB’s pulpit this Sunday!” – Rev. Tricia
