“Siding with Love, Siding with Life: a Conversation about Overdose Prevention Centers”

Rev. Karen Johnston – Senior Minister

Ed Baker- Guest Speaker

Geoff Duke – Worship Associate

Description: What is ours to do? With the rise in American society  ~ and right here in Burlington ~ since we can’t solve it, what is ours to do when it seems that the scourge of addiction is causing such deep and intransigent suffering? The heart of this Sunday service will be a conversation between Rev. Karen and local community advocate, Ed Baker, to help us understand the spiritual and justice issues related to the coming Overdose Prevention Center that will be located somewhere in Burlington. Come with an open mind and open heart to learn more.  Ed has agreed to stay afterwards to answer your questions.

Ed Baker is a retired social worker who spent decades working in the field of addiction and recovery in Vermont. He is grounded in his own experience as a person in recovery from addiction. A resident of Burlington, he cares deeply about people with addiction and the City of Burlington. Ed has spent his retirement years educating the public regarding the stigma placed upon people with addiction and the importance of opening an Overdose Prevention Center in downtown Burlington.
