Are we broken and in need of redemption—or golden inside, simply waiting to be uncovered? Recovery programs offer profound spiritual tools for anyone on a healing journey—not just those affected by substance use. 12-step and Buddhist recovery paths invite us to cultivate our own spirituality and embrace life wholeheartedly, trusting in our capacity to grow and heal—values that deeply align with Unitarian Universalism.
James Buck is a humanitarian photojournalist who tells stories of human trial and triumph to open hearts and minds. He has been in recovery since 2020, where he rediscovered and recreated spiritual traditions to create a life of compassion and service alongside his UU values. James is a trans Vermonter who lives in LA and values kindness above all things.
