At First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington, caring for each other and our community is central to our mission and is everyone’s work. When our needs invite some extra support, Member Care tries to fill in the gap. The Member Care Team, consisting of ministerial staff, the Director of Lifespan Faith Development, the Director of Operations and Finance, and leaders from the Care Network and Pastoral Care Associates Teams, meets monthly to discuss the needs and/or challenges of congregants needing such support, and to determine how we might help.

You can inform Member Care of particular needs in two separate ways. You can fill out the online Member Care Referral Form for yourself or someone you may be concerned about, as long as you have their permission. Alternatively, you may call (802) 557-8566 and leave a message with your name, contact information and a description of the nature of your (or someone else’s) particular need.

If this is a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or the Howard Center Adult Crisis Hotline, (802) 488-6400

The Work of the Teams

The Pastoral Care Associates Team, guided by their covenant and code of ethics, is a group of trained congregation volunteers, whose purpose is spiritual and/or emotional in nature. Team members provide a listening and loving presence during times of transition and challenge such as a death in the family, a health crisis or some other difficult issue. Team members benefit from supervision meetings with the ministerial staff. If you are curious to learn more about this ministry, email [email protected]

The Care Network Team is a group of FUUSB volunteers who share with all members the goal of caring for each other and our community. Team members provide support through one-to-one caring relationships and through providing occasional meal trains, sending cards, and delivering handmade shawls. The Care Network Team, too, has a code of ethics, special training, and works with the Member Care Team to identify the needs of members, both emergent and ongoing.

We invite all of you to become involved in caring for each other in one or all of the following ways:
